In recovery we can get discouraged when our progress seems slow, when we keep slipping, or when we feel overwhelmed. When was the last time that you felt like this? This can happen in your journey through addiction, but it does not have to be a permanent situation. The lie of the enemy here is that things will never get better, you will never be free and you will always be a failure. We counter that by speaking the truth of God's Word: Philippians 1:6 " being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" NIV Philippians 4:13 "I can do all this through him who gives me strength....

There are various ways that that people act out, but before they do they feel triggered. In this series, each letter will have a message dedicated to it where we will explore that trigger. Hungry: Ever felt hangry? Jacob is chilling at home, trying a new recipe that he found on Masterchef, when suddenly his brother bursts into the tent and shouts that he wants some stew. Jacob looks up at him and offers a trade, some food for Esau's birthright. As the firstborn son, he would inherit the majority of his father's assets, but also a special blessing. HALT - L is for loneliness

Loneliness is by far my most painful trigger, I believe that the overwhelming majority of people in recovery also struggle with it. I have spoken to men from many different countries and what unites us; is our pain when we feel lonely. Loneliness isn't just about being alone, but about not feeling seen, known or needed. It is possible to be in a room with 100 people and still feel deeply alone. Chip Dodd shares about the 8 core feelings and how they are supposed to lead us to a gift, but when we cannot process that feeling, the pendulum swings the other way and it becomes apathy (there is no point to anything, depression). Loneliness is not a flaw or a weakness, rather it is a signal, telling us that we need connection.
